On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
by Ocean Vuong
Told as a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read it, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a tender and unflinching exploration of family, memory, and first love. Vuong’s language is poetic and intimate, tracing the aftershocks of war, migration, and addiction through one young man’s coming-of-age. It’s a story about survival, desire, and the fragile beauty of being alive in a world that doesn’t always make space for you.
We chose this novel for March because it invites deep reflection. Reflection on identity, inheritance, and the stories we carry into spring’s season of renewal. Its lyrical prose makes it a powerful discussion book, rich with themes of queerness, generational healing, and the complexity of love. As a community that values thoughtful, transformative reads, this one feels especially aligned with our intention to read bravely and beautifully together.
